What is it that makes my eyes shine?

After watching Benjamin Zander's video on what makes his eyes shine, I really began to reflect on what are some of the most memorable moments in my life and what made them so memorable. Although there are countless things that I could reference here, I really focused on three things that make my eyes shine: Music; the ability to listen, understand, and play music is a gift that I thank God for everyday. Leadership; my passion in life is leading others. and Service; giving back makes my heart swell with hope that this world can be a better place.

I have been playing violin since I was eleven years old. None of my family has ever had any musical experience or love for the art. It really came to me as a moment of chance and opportunity and I have never looked back since. I have grown to love how music makes me feel and how it makes others feel as well. I have really found myself in music, and not just the classical pieces that I play on my violin. I listen to the words and to the melody of songs and I really think about what it all means. I thank God everyday for this beautiful talent that he has given me.

This is by far one of the most proudest accomplishments of my life. I would not have been who I am to day with out being able to serve as last years students body president of my high school. The reason why I loved it so much is not because I got my own parking sign or because of the numerous field trips, but because leading others is truly my passion in life. I love to set the example and I love taking on major projects with huge responsibilities and others looking at me for advice. Leadership is something that truly makes my eyes shine.

I have had the opportunity to help make my community a better place countless times. Whether it be community trash pick up, collecting money to donate to various cancer projects, or just collecting books and cans to send to those in need, I have seen many things that give me hope that there are still people that care about the community. But what really makes my eyes shine is when people do for each other simply just to do it. No rewards, no incentives, just acting out of shear kindness that comes from with in them. It warms my heart to do for others. I have learned that this is one of the biggest reasons why I have such a big heart and I care so much. Service is what makes the world go round and that is why it means so much to me.
